A DSN file is a PCB (printed circuit board) design file created by OrCAD, a program used to design PCBs. It saves the circuit schematic and is often one of several files included in a OrCAD project (.OPJ file). DSN files reference "symbols," which are the electronic components used to make up the design (stored in .OLB files).
DSN files are typically opened using OrCAD PCB Designer because they are created by the program. However, you can also import DSN files in Altium Designer as schematic files using the Import Wizard in the program.
A DSN file is a data file used by various database client programs to connect to a database. It describes properties, such as the data source name and directory, the connection driver, the server address, user ID, and password. DSN files are used by ODBC drivers to connect to a specified database, such as a SQL Server or Microsoft Access database.
The FileInfo.com team has independently researched all file formats and software programs listed on this page. Our goal is 100% accuracy and we only publish information about file types that we have verified.
Using OrCAD Capture and PCB Editor Free Viewer, a design team can access read-only versions of all design files created in OrCAD Capture and PCB Editor. Using the Capture Free Viewer, you can open a project, schematic design, or library.
Using the Free OrCAD Viewer allows you to open a project, schematic, or library and access design data very easily. Read-only and secure access to design data makes it effortless for a design project team to review and track the progress of design files created in OrCAD Capture and PCB Editor.
If your OrCAD Capture CIS designers work in a multi-user networked environment, you can leverage CIS functionality for easier management of your group's part and footprint libraries and files you can browse. Placing libraries and files in a designated location forces all engineers to pull information from a central source. This not only promotes data integrity, since all users are getting part information from a common source, but also eases the burden of administrating libraries.
The problem that you are experiencing is probably due to the Windows file association set up on your computer. For example, if your .dsn file extension is associated with the PCB Router, you are unable to open a .dsn file from Capture.
We were given some old hardware design files by a customer for redevelopment. The files came in the form of .dsn and zipped files. I tried the Allegro Free Physical/MCM Viewer and got the following errors:
Suspecting these could be OrCad Capture files, I then tried the free OrCad ViewReader which turned out to be a translater rather than a viewer. The latest attempt was to download an OrCad 16.6 Demo Software and see if that's any good but apparently it takes time.
*.dsn could be either an OrCAD Capture schematic design or an Allegro Specctra Router design file (also *.dsn). More that likely it will be the first. The netlist files pstchip.dat, pstxnet.dat and pstxprt.dat can all be opened with a text editor. If you also have *.brd then this is the actual board file that you can open with the free viewer or the demo software.
Apple ODBC Administrator is the primary software program that utilizes the OrCAD Design File file, originally developed by Apple. Internal website statistics show that DSN files are most popular with users in China and those running the Windows 10 operating system. Google Chrome is the predominant internet browser used by this population.
The OrCAD design file importer is available through Altium Designer's Import Wizard (File » Import Wizard) by selecting the Orcad Designs and Libraries Files option on the Wizard's Select Type of Files to Import page. The Wizard provides options for nominating both schematic/PCB design files and library files, and also OrCAD to Altium Designer PCB layer mapping options.
To support the batch import process of multiple designs, the Import Wizard offers a default Layer Mapping setup, which can be modified and saved as a text-based *.ini file. The mapping is used by the Wizard to build the layer mapping for each PCB in the imported design, so during the import of several PCB files, a saved mapping configuration file can be loaded and applied to individual (or all) PCB files.
In OrCAD Capture all design work begins on the page, which is the logical working area of the design, and there can be multiple schematic pages within a single OrCAD schematic design file (*.DSN file). In Altium Designer, the logical design area begins with a document, and for each document, there is a file stored on the hard drive.
This means that each Altium Designer schematic sheet (page) is represented by is schematic document file, which is a key conceptual difference to keep in mind. Note that Altium Designer can also include multiple documents of varying types (beyond just schematic and PCB design documents), depending on the nature of the design project.
Many elements of the Altium Designer environment will appear familiar to OrCAD users, such as the Projects panel which is similar to the OrCAD Project Manager. Since the Projects panel is not limited to schematic design data, it can include the PCB, all libraries, output files, as well as other project documents, such as non-native files (PDFs, text files, spreadsheets, etc.).
In which SPB version was the circuit (.DSN file) saved ? If it was saved prior to version 9.2, the you will have to open and save it once in SPB 16.2 and then it can be opened in current SPB versions.
You shoudl be able to open this DSN file directly in 16.6 verison. Location shoudn't matter unless you don;t have wruite permissions. try moving it to D drive or any other location where you are sure that you have write permision.
OrCAD is the main software that is used by electronic design engineers and technicians to create electronic design automation. The schematics have to be created and printed for manufacturing the PCB boards. OrCAD PSPICE free download can be used to design the circuits with the tools that are available in the software. This OrCAD viewer freeware is free to use and can be used for designing many different types of complex diagrams quickly and easily in a very intuitive environment.
Translating complete PADS Layout® designs, including PCB files and library files can all be handled by Altium Designer's Import Wizard. The Import Wizard removes much of the headache normally found with design translation by analyzing your files and offering many defaults and suggested settings for project structure, layer mapping, PCB footprint naming, and more. Complete flexibility is found in all pages of the Wizard, giving you as little or as much control as you would like over the file translation settings, before committing to the actual translation process.
The file format of *.DSN files changed in OrCAD Capture 10.x. *.DSN files saved normally in OrCAD Capture 10.x and higher may be incompatible with Altium Designer releases earlier than Summer 09 (and also, it may be added, with releases of OrCAD Capture earlier than 10.x). Attempting to import a 10.x *.DSN file into Altium Designer Winter 09 or earlier may give you an Unrecognized Project File Version error.
An integrated library in Altium Designer is one where the source symbol, footprint, and all other information (e.g. SPICE and other model files) are compiled into a single file. During compilation checks are made to see how relationships are defined, to validate the relationship between the models and the symbols and to bundle them into a single integrated library. This file can not be directly edited after compilation, offering portability and security. All of Altium Designer's 70,000+ components are supplied in integrated libraries, from which the source libraries can be extracted at any time if required.
The term Part is used only as part of the design capture (schematic) process in Altium Designer. Once placed as a footprint into a PCB file, it is given a designator and value (comment) and becomes a component.
Right now I have to update schematics in 17.2 Schematic using a network license server we had to figure out how to set up and then do the netlist import to 16.2 OrCad Layout just to generate updated gerber files. It's the only reason we still have an OrCad license, that on rare occasion we need to remake an old board that we've made manual fixes on or have discontinued parts for and want to update the design.
The only progress that has been made on that front is the ability to import OrCAD libs but that's it. Once you start talking about importing competitors files, legal teams have to get involved and things stall. Our hurdle to this functionality is more legal than it is technical. Until that changes we are essentially in a stalemate on functionality like this.
I am just starting a custom board using the iMX6Dual processor and get Design files from SABRE Board Reference Design|NXP . But the design files is allegro layout .brd file and orcad .dsn file. Mentor pads logic and pads layout is the only CAD tools in our company. How can I get mentor pads .pcb and .sch files from these .brd and .dsn files or already have these files but I have not found?
Unfortunately, there seems to be no easy way of converting .brd to .pcb files. Seems that you should have both Allegro and PADS tools installed to make the conversion. For more information, please refer to attached file.
Could the online design review accept the pads .sch and .pcb files on the i.MX6Dual platform? If not, we will give up the efforts to convert. Migrating to cadence seems some difficulty for us, but we have no more choice because we need your review to help.
