.Scaling law of radiative heat flux from the thermal radiation of granular materials.

We study thermal radiation from a two-dimensional granular system consisting of balls of equal size. The radiative heat flux is obtained by solving the steady-state heat conduction equation. We analyze the influence of the size ratio and the frequency dependence of the system's structure on the heat flux profile. We find that, for the frequency range we have studied, the heat flux is about three times larger than the radiative flux due to an effectively three-dimensional system. We show the existence of a scaling law with surface area that allows us to find an expression for the total radiative flux.On May 8, Sudanese security forces began a highly-coordinated campaign of terror bombing that has killed over 60 civilians in the surrounding regions of Darfur. In January, Nafie Buraka, the director of the Nafusa Centre for Human Rights, was sentenced to two years in prison for criticizing the government on state television.

After receiving the report, President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton immediately called on the Sudanese government to end the systematic suppression of human rights, and the U.N. Security Council did the same. Yet the Sudanese government has continued its campaign of repression and cruelty, aided and abetted by China, South Sudan, and the African Union, which has joined the United States in condemning the violence in Darfur.

An estimated one million people have died during the Darfur conflict and the Sudanese government has used the fighting to facilitate its efforts to steal and hide government wealth. The vast majority of those killed in the attacks have been civilians, and the vast majority of the victims are women and children.

The Security Council must hear from all sides, including victims. We call on the Security Council to issue a strong, clear statement of condemnation, urging the Sudanese government to cease its campaign of terror bombing and to stop its use of arrest and torture.
